Some of my important "wins" & Acchievements

Backed investment in our young people

Secured Council support for continued investment in the Beacon Foundation and protected YouthArc from being moved or defunded.

Strengthened financial accountability

Successfully passed a motion requiring Council to prepare a full business case before taking on any new loans, ensuring smarter and more transparent financial decisions.

Turned around the Hobart Aquatic Centre’s financial performance

Applied sustained pressure until the current executive acknowledged the unacceptable $2 million annual loss. Now the Centre is set to break even — saving ratepayers around $2 million every year.

Improved fairness and oversight of Council properties

Pushed for a full audit of Council‑owned properties and leases to ensure fairness and proper management. This includes addressing long‑standing issues such as Dorney House, which had been costing ratepayers $200,000 a year with no viable business case.

Delivered a better deal for Salamanca Market stallholders

Negotiated an improved contract on behalf of stallholders, resulting in the return of 15 years’ worth of incorrectly charged stamp duty.

Increased disability parking access

Secured eight additional disability parking spaces in the Argyle Street car park near the Royal Hobart Hospital pedestrian overpass.

Strengthened governance and accountability

Rewrote Council’s meeting rules so that questions taken on notice must be answered at the following meeting — improving transparency and responsiveness.

Lifted the standard of community consultation

Improved the quality of Council surveys and engagement processes to ensure residents are properly heard.

Supported neighbourhood planning that protects community interests

Backed the creation of the Sandy Bay and Mount Nelson neighbourhood plans, which provided a strong community‑led response to UTAS proposals.

Established a new safety liaison team

Initiated the formation of a dedicated safety liaison team that will work alongside Tasmania Police to reduce crime and support vulnerable people in the city.

Opposed unfair rate hikes for short‑stay accommodation

Pushed back against a proposed 400% rate increase caused by flawed governance methodology, while still supporting sensible limits on the concentration of short‑stay properties.

Improved transparency around developer interactions

Supported stronger reporting requirements for elected members to ensure greater openness about discussions with developers.
